CT Compliant Modification

Swamp Yankee Firearms is the leader in modifying firearms to be CT compliant.  We hold a firearms manufacturing license and are very knowledgable on the silly laws and their language to make sure you stay legal.  Our services allow legal possession of many firearms that are otherwise unobtainable in this state.

Magazine Limiting

We offer permanent modification for most standard capacity magazines which will limit their capacity to only 10 rounds.  This is commonly known as "magazine pinning" allows Connecticut residents to purchase an otherwise legal firearm with a magazine capable of holding greater than 10 rounds and have it permanently modified to limit it to hold only 10 rounds.  Please be aware that this is a permanent modification and cannot be undone.  Even though it is referred to as "pinning", Swamp Yankee Firearms does not use the old method of metal pins or unsightly rivits to accomplish this.  We use high-tech epoxies and 3D printed blocks to limit the magazine capacity internally leaving the magazine looking like factory new.

Fixed Magazine Conversion

Swamp Yankee Firearms can now convert your AR15, AR10 or AK-47 to a fixed magazine firearm.  This conversion makes AR & AK rifles and pistols compliant under Connecticut laws all while leaving all your favorite tactical features in place. This provides a true solution to owning an AR or AK in Connecticut.  Our proprietary method utilizes a mechanism designed to permamnently attach a magazine to any MIL-SPEC AR10 or AR 15.

Why Choose Our Conversions

Many shops in Connecticut are selling firearms with sub-par fixed magazine conversions.  These methods were designed for other states, such as Cailifornia and New York, who also have "assault weapon" bans, yet their laws were written differently than Connecticut's.  These methods generally allow the magazine to still be removed without disassembling the action and leave you in possession of an illegal gun.  We say our rule of thumb is that if the magazine can be removed without removing the trigger, then it is not legal in CT.

About the CompMag

Swamp Yankee Firearms now offers the CompMag for both AR and AK platforms.  This provides a convenient and safe solution for fixed magazines.  The CompMag loads through a window in the side of the magazine and allows you to release the magazine spring tension and unload the firearm through that same window without having to separate the upper and lower receivers.  If you have ever had a jam in a traditional fixed magazine rifle, then you know the need for the CompMag.  AR-15 and AK-47 versions hold 10 rounds, while the AR-10 version holds 8.

Quick Load Solutions for traditional magazines

A couple different manufacturers offer quick loading solutions for your traditional fixed magazine.  The optional 10-round cartridge loading devices allow you to safely and efficiently reload your fixed magazine without the need to break down the firearm.  Simply place the loader into your AR's ejection port and slide to quickly load or reload.  It is that simple and takes the same amount of time as a magazine change.  Note: Does NOT work with left handed uppers and may not feed reliably with some brands of 300 Blackout ammunition.

Additional Terms of Service

PLEASE NOTE that the following policies and terms of service apply to fixed magazine conversions:

Any firearm receiving custom work, including fixed magazine conversion (magazine locking), must be picked up in Milford, CT or we can arrange shipping to your local FFL at an additional cost.

Swamp Yankee Firearms will not perform a fixed magazine conversion on any firearm banned by make and model under Public Act 23-53.  This does not apply to "copies or duplicates" as magazine locking changed the way the firearm functions, no longer making it a copy or duplicate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this make a firearm legal to own in CT?  Connecticut General Statute Sec. 53-202a defines what is considered an assault weapon.  In reference to semiautomatic, centerfire rifles and semiautomatic pistols, the section states the firearm "has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following" safety features.  When we focus on what is considered a detachable magazine, the same section of the statute reads  that a "detachable magazine means an ammunition feeding device that can be removed without disassembling the firearm action.  Action of the weapon means the part of the firearm that loads, fires and ejects a cartridge, which part includes, but is not limited to, the upper and lower receiver, charging handle, forward assist, magazine release and shell deflector."

A firearm with either the Magazine Lock or CompMag installed by Swamp Yankee Firearms does not allow the magazine tpo be removed whatsoever, so is no longer considered as having a detachable magazine.  Please note that our installation methods go above and beyond those of the manufacturers of either system, making our install a true permanent installation.

It is interresting to know that Connecticut does not consider modern sporting rifles to be considered assault weapons unless they can accept a detachable magazine.  This acknowledges that CT does not consider these firearms more dangerous than other firrearms and only the detachable magazines are a threat to public safety, even if they can only hold 10 rounds.  However, other 10 rounds detachable magazines are not considered dangerous.  So as usual, no logic or science in firearm legislation.

Can a pistol be converted to a fixed magazine as well?  Yes, any AR15 or AR10/308 pistol can also legally be converted to a fixed magazine solution.

Will you lock the magazine for any AR15 or ART10/308?  We will lock allmost any, but not all, AR15 or AR10/308 magazine.  Swamp Yankee Firearms will not perform magazine locing on any firearm banned by make and model under Public Act 23-53.  This does not apply to "copies or duplicates" as magazine locking changed the way the firearm functions, no longer making it a copy or duplicate.

I may move to a free state some day.  Can my magazine be removed at that point?  No, this is a permanent modification.  We suggest you either enjoy your fixed magazine firearm in that state as well or hold off on purchasing the firearm until after you move.

Muzzle Device Welding

We offer permanent modification for most muzzle devices by pinning and welding them to the barrel.  For rifles, this can help you achieve an overall rilfe barrel length of over 16" while using a short barrel and avoiding NFA registration.  It is also useful for pistols with threaded barrels so they are no longer considered assault weapons in CT yet still allowing you to attach a suppressor.  We may not be able to offer this service for all firearms depending on the firearm coating, coloring or function.  Different welding techniques may be used for different firearms to achieve the best result.

CAM-LOK

The Griffin Armament CAM-LOK interface affords the user the ability to convert most 9mm, 10mm or 45 caliber tilting barrel pistol to accept a suppressor with a piston.  It also allows a quick and easy method to attach and detach your suppressor and affords a universal mounting source for that suppressor across all your pistols fitted with the CAM-LOK.  Piston not included.

22 QDA

The Gemtech 22 QDA is a universal adapter for all fixed barrel rimfire pistols that allow suppressor attachment and detachment quickly and efficiently. The 22 QDA will allow you to switch firearms or remove your suppressor quickly and still maintain zero. The quad lug is only the portion that is welded to the pistol barrel while the assembly also includes the portion that attaches to the suppressor.

Please note that these devices will be permanently attached to your pistol.  Not all pistols are compatible with either the 22 QDA or CAM-LOK.

Stock Pinning

We offer permanent modification for most adjustible stocks to keep them set at a fixed length.

PLEASE NOTE that any firearm receiving custom work such as magazine limiting, magazine locking, stock pinning must be picked up in Milford, CT or we can arrange shipping to your local FFL at an additional cost.  These items can not be returned once custom work has been performed.  Please allow 2 weeks for all custom work to be performed.
